Immersive Video-Opera

Immersive Video-Opera «Ib: Le cornu ancestrale»

Premieres at Zahir Ensemble Festival in Seville

Seville, December 17, 2024 — The XV Zahir Ensemble Contemporary Music Festival, held throughout the year at the iconic Espacio Turina, closed its December program with a groundbreaking performance that captivated audiences with its multisensory depth. At the heart of the evening was the world of video-opera, as Morphosis Ensemble, under the direction of Àlex Sansó, presented «Ib: Le cornu ancestrale», a visionary work by Catalan composer Joan Bagés.

Described as a fully immersive experience, Ib: Le cornu ancestrale weaves together music, sound design, and visual art to form a poetic meditation on the mystery of existence. Central to the piece is the element of water, used as a metaphor for human life and the notion of coexistence. The work blurs the lines between genres, combining instrumental music, live electronics, sung and spoken text, and powerful video imagery to create what Bagés calls a “mental landscape” that transcends the purely auditory or visual.

The performance drew attention for its bold innovation and emotional resonance, marking a highlight in the festival’s commitment to pushing the frontiers of contemporary music and performance art.

As the curtain fell, it was clear that Ib: Le cornu ancestrale had offered more than just a concert — it had delivered a sensory journey into the depths of sound, image, and meaning.
